AACU Distinguished Leadership Award

The AACU Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes elected officials and executive-level appointees who support the organization’s priorities and the interests of the urologic community before state government.

Hoffman/Carson Memorial Lecture

This lecture memorializes AACU founding members Russell B. Carson and Charles A. Hoffman. It is presented at the AACU Annual Meeting.

In 1968 at the AUA Meeting in Miami, Russell B. Carson and Charles A. Hoffman invited the AUA Section Presidents and some others who had similar concerns to a breakfast gathering. The purpose was to create an organization to.

Provide information about issues affecting socioeconomic and political spheres of our profession.

Influence directly the resolutions of those issues.

Provide one-on-one communication between urologist and legislator in order to assist in the development of suitable legislation in the best interests of private clinical patient care

From this meeting, the AACU was born

These founders had the foresight to know that medicine must be part of the discussion when it comes to policy issues. In their memory, the AACU continues the tradition of honoring individuals that make a significant contribution to supporting the best interests of physician practice and patient care with the Hoffman/Carson Memorial Lecture presented at the AACU Annual Meeting.

The Herb Sohn Award

Presented to a urologist who has demonstrated vision, leadership and rugged persistence in federal and/or state advocacy.

The Herb Sohn Award for excellence in advocacy for urology was established in 2019. The Award is intended to be presented to a urologist who has demonstrated vision, leadership and rugged persistence in federal and/or state advocacy on behalf of all urologists just as Dr. Sohn did throughout his career.
