The Honorable Gregory F. Murphy, MD, FACS, was appointed to the North Carolina House of Representatives in October 2015 and secured the seat himself in the next election. He is currently the only physician in the North Carolina General Assembly.

Representative Murphy co-chairs the Health Policy Committee and the Appropriations Committee for Health and Human Services while also serving on several other committees including Insurance and Education for Universities.

Dr. Murphy is the Division Chief of Urology for the Department of Surgery at the East Carolina University School of Medicine and recently finished a three year term as Chief of Staff of Vidant Medical Center.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Murphy is the president and senior management partner for Eastern Urological Associates, P.A., a regional urological practice network based in Greenville with a 29-county referral basin.

Dr. Murphy has been an active volunteer for international and emergency medical/surgical missions for over 30 years, including leading 3 post-earthquake missions for surgical/emergency medical services in Haiti.

Representative Murphy received his medical degree with Honors from UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine graduating as a member of AOA and completed his Urologic residency at the University of Kentucky.
