Prostate Cancer Screening Legislation Moves Forward in Virginia

During this year’s Virginia’s legislative session, HB477 (Health Insurance Coverage for Prostate Cancer Screening) was introduced and referred to the committee on Commerce and Energy. The AACU along with the American Urological Association, Medical Society of Virginia, Zero, and several other interested coalition partners supported this bill to prohibit insurers from requiring cost-sharing for prostate cancer screening services. The committee referred the proposal to the Virginia Health Insurance Reform Commission which will be obliged to study its potential impact and report back to the House of Delegates within two years.
