Urology Defense Fund
Introducing the Urology Defense Fund
A Strategic Advocacy and Operations Initiative of the American Association of Clinical Urology (AACU)
The policy environment surrounding urology is becoming more complex, more compressed, and more consequential. Reimbursement pressure, scope expansion, and regulatory changes are no longer isolated developments. They are interconnected forces that move quickly and often take shape before they are fully visible.
The AACU has long served as a voice for urologists navigating these pressures. The next step is to ensure that the organization has the operational capacity to act at the same pace as the market itself.
The Urology Defense Fund is designed to meet that need.
This fund establishes a dedicated advocacy and operations platform within AACU that supports the full scope of policy engagement outside of direct political contributions. It exists alongside UROPAC, which continues to manage candidate-focused activity within the traditional PAC framework. The Defense Fund is built to support the broader work that drives outcomes before and beyond elections.
That work includes issue advocacy at the state and federal level, rapid response to reimbursement and scope threats, coalition development, policy research, and strategic communications. It also supports the infrastructure required to engage early in the policy process, where many of the most consequential decisions are shaped.
The purpose is straightforward. To create a continuous, well-resourced capability to protect the practice environment for urology teams and the patients they serve.
This structure expands participation in a meaningful way. Practicing urologists who may not engage through a PAC framework have a direct path to support advocacy efforts. Corporate partners are able to contribute to policy and patient-focused initiatives in a manner consistent with their internal guidelines. The result is a broader base of support aligned around a shared objective: maintaining access, stability, and clinical autonomy in urology.
The Urology Defense Fund operates with clear boundaries. It does not make direct political contributions and does not coordinate with candidate giving. Its focus is on advocacy, policy engagement, and the operational work required to influence outcomes responsibly and effectively. This distinction ensures transparency, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
At its core, the Urology Defense Fund reflects a simple premise. In a policy-driven healthcare market, outcomes are shaped by those who are prepared to engage early, consistently, and with purpose.
This fund ensures that AACU is built to do exactly that.
