AACU Elects 2011-2012 Board of Directors

Hartford, Conn. urologist Arthur E. Tarantino, MD, assumed the Presidency of the American Association of Clinical Urologists Board of Directors at its annual business meeting Sept. 25, 2011. In addition, Mark S. Austenfeld, MD, and Jeffrey M. Frankel, MD, were elected President-elect and Historian respectively.

"I am proud to lead this organization at a time where there is a tremendous opportunity to influence legislative and regulatory policies that will impact patient care and the practice of urology for years to come," Tarantino remarked. "[Immediate Past President] Tom Brown served the AACU with incredible dedication and foresight. I look forward to building upon his many successes and initiating new programs to grow the organization."

Dr. Tarantino is a private practice urologist with Hartford Specialists in Hartford, Conn. After receiving an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tarantino earned his master's and medical degrees from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his urology residency at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. Dr. Tarantino also serves as Treasurer for the New England Section of the AUA and Chair of the AUA Practice Management Committee.

In addition to electing Drs. Austenfeld and Frankel, the AACU recognized outgoing Historian and Past President Sushil Lacy, MD, for his dedication and service to the organization as he focuses on his term as President of the American Urological Association. The Board of Directors also announced the appointment of AUA Western Section Representative Richard S. Pelman, MD, to serve as Chair of the AACU State Society Network.
