Where We Stand
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in men, and about one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime.
Fortunately, the early detection of prostate cancer through appropriate testing has been shown to dramatically reduce morbidity and mortality associated with prostate cancer.
While there has been some recent debate surrounding the use of certain prostate cancer testing modalities, the urologic community should ensure that third-party payors provide for the reimbursement of these tests when the patient and his physician conclude that such testing is the appropriate course.
